Pasadena June 2013
As part of their Artist in Residence Program, the DDR. Corporation had Tom Matousek, 2013 Artist in Residence, recreate his Jackie Robinson painting in chalk involving people from the community. Children and adults were coached by Tom to recreate various sections of his painting. Tom was featured in the Los Angeles Times for this event and was given the honor of choosing the recipient of the Tom's Choice Award of the Pasadena Chalk Festival. Moe Notsu was the winner and her life-like chalk rendition of artist Jean-Michel Basquiat can be seen in this album. This was the first time Tom has ever created chalk art. It's a difficult medium to work with and he was inspired by all 600 artists who participated in this event. Stop by the Paseo Colorado Mall in Pasadena on October 13 between 12-6 to help recreate the Jackie Robinson on canvas with Tom!
